Overview

FKM / FPM in use

FKM or FPM, known among other names as Viton from DuPont, stands out for its wide range of possible applications.

The material is highly recommended for outdoor use, for contact with oils and fuels, for acids and alkalis, and for high-temperature applications.

Properties

Properties of FKM / FPM

  • Very good resistance to UV, ozone and weathering
  • Very good resistance to oils and greases
  • Very good resistance to fuels
  • Very good to good resistance to various chemical media
  • Good physical values for abrasion, elongation, tensile strength and compression set
  • Self-extinguishing or flame-retardant on request
  • Temperature resistant up to approx. +230 °C, but with disadvantages in low-temperature resistance compared with other elastomers

Chemical resistance

Resistance of FKM / FPM

1 = very good 2 = good 3 = limited 4 = poor 5 = very poor
Medium Rating Description
Mineral oils & greases 1 Very good resistance
Acids & alkalis, dilute 1 Very good resistance
Fuels 1 Very good resistance
Formic acid 3 Limited resistance
Butyric acid 4 Poor resistance
Acetic acid, 100 % concentrate 5 Very poor resistance
Sodium hydroxide solution, caustic soda 4 Poor resistance
