Overview

Foamed elastomers in use

We manufacture three foamed elastomers with different cell structures: cellular rubber (closed-cell), sponge rubber (mixed-cell, open-pore) and silicone foam (closed-cell). All three are available in various forms and elastomer grades and are used for punched parts, flat seals and moulded articles.

Cellular rubber

Cellular rubber is a closed-cell material whose cell structure makes it water-repellent and airtight. It is foamed from NR or synthetic rubbers and fully vulcanised in large blocks. The block material can be split into various thicknesses and, on request, given a self-adhesive finish on one side. Very good resilience, suitable for mechanical applications. Grades: NR, NBR, CR, EPDM or a CR/NBR blend.

Sponge rubber

Unlike cellular rubber, sponge rubber is a mixed-cell, open-pore material with good damping properties. Available with a closed outer skin or with a fabric texture on both sides, vulcanised in the mould. Very good resilience, available as sheet, moulded article, profile and round cord. Grades: NR, NBR, CR, EPDM.

Silicone foam

Silicone foam is a closed-cell foamed material that withstands high temperatures (standard -60 °C to +200 °C, special types up to +250 °C). During production, an activator is added to the silicone compound to make it foam. It is electrically non-conductive, has good to very good chemical resistance and is suitable for food contact (FDA § 21 CFR 177.2600, BfR XV). Available as sheet (for punched parts and water jet cuts), as round cord and profile (by the metre or cut to length), optionally self-adhesive on one side, in white/light or blue (FDA).
