Overview

With its set of technical rules, the DVGW (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) forms the basis for applications in the gas and water industry. On request, we supply seals with the appropriate DVGW approval or conformity.

For drinking water seals we recommend our EPDM blue material. All applications and approvals relating to drinking water can be found under drinking water, the material requirements in the KTW-BWGL and EN 16421 (DVGW W270).

FAQ

The key questions

What does the abbreviation DVGW stand for?
DVGW is the abbreviation of Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V., the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water. With its set of technical rules, the association forms the basis for all activities in the gas and water industry and incorporates the applicable DIN standards and requirements. In the gas sector, testing is carried out to DIN EN 549 and DIN EN 682; in the water sector, to DIN EN 681.
Which requirements must be met?
The requirements for the quality of drinking water are laid down in the German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV). Seals must use suitable materials that come into contact with drinking water, particularly in the sanitary sector. The same applies to seals in gas-carrying lines and systems.
Which products require DVGW approval?
All seals used in gas-carrying lines and in drinking water applications, e.g. for fittings and piping systems.
How do products obtain DVGW approval?
Some materials already hold an official DVGW approval or conformity, both for sheet material (punched parts, flat seals) and for compounds for moulded articles, sealing rings, hose rings and O-rings.
What are the benefits of DVGW approval?
The DVGW ensures a safe and environmentally compatible gas and water supply. A DVGW approval guarantees that all products in the supply chain make a safe contribution.
Is a DVGW approval mandatory for seals?
No, there is no general obligation. The DVGW is one of the leading testing and certification bodies in the gas and water sector. DVGW approvals for seals mainly exist for applications in gas-carrying pipes. Whether your product needs one is your decision as the customer, depending on the application and requirements. For seals in contact with drinking water, the KTW-BWGL of the German Environment Agency is the main requirement in Germany.
